SKW’s U15 girls’ soccer team won the trophy in the U15 girls category at the Otb Sport Youth seven-a-side soccer tournament at the SKW field on Saturday.

SKW beat Emma Hoogenhout 2-1 in the final with Sandra Starke scoring both their goals.
SKW earlier beat Emma Hoogenhout, Delta School and Pioniers Park in round robin matches to progress to the final.

The 14-year-old Starke, who is the daughter of Cymot SKW’s head coach Richard Starke, was the star of the tournament and went on to win the Player of the Tournament award as well as the top goal scorer award.
Starke scored six of SKW’s seven goals during the tournament, with Tatjana Juling scoring the other.

The young Starke is a rising soccer star and earlier this season competed for Turbine Potsdam in Germany’s U17 league. She has also been called up to the German soccer squad in preparation for the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The girls’ U15 tournament was just one of several youth soccer competitions which formed part of the Otb seven-a-side tournament and drew close to 700 participants.
A total of 61 teams and 152 matches were played during the tournament in various age group categories.

The following schools and clubs participated in the tournament:
Eldorado Secondary School, St Georges, Concordia College, Emma Hoogenhout, St Paul’s College, Namib Primary, Eros Primary, Delta, SKW, Khomasdal Football Academy and Ramblers.

The top goal scorer of each age category received a CB Enterprise trophy and a N$600 voucher for a pair of PUMA boots. The younger groups - U9 and U11- won Puma soccer jerseys and caps. There were also numerous lucky draws including balls, PUMA t-shirts, PUMA tog bags, boot bags and water bottles.

Event organisers and sponsors, Otb Sport, said that they were impressed with the very high standard of soccer, while the kids played with lots of passion.
